Health Assessment Advisory Service

Welcome to the Health Assessment Advisory Service

We carry out assessments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit (UC), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Specialist Benefits on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions in South-West and South Central England.
You can find out more information about the different types of benefits and assessments below.

Assessments

When you make a claim for a benefit with the Department for Work and Pensions, you may be invited to an assessment with a qualified healthcare professional. Find out more about the assessment process for each of these benefits.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

PIP helps with some of the extra costs you have to pay when you have a disability or a long-term health condition. These include daily living costs and those related to mobility. As part of your application, you may be asked to have a PIP assessment.

Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

Universal Credit (UC) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) provides support for people with limited capability for work or limited capability for work-related activity because of a health condition or disability. As part of your application, you may be asked to have a Work Capability Assessment (WCA).

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB)

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) supports people who are ill or disabled from an accident or disease caused by work or while on an approved training scheme or course. You may be asked to complete a statement with one of our Functional Assessors as part of your claim. You cannot get IIDB if you are self-employed.

Veterans UK Assessment

Our Functional Assessors carry out assessments for Veterans UK. These are to assess disability from an injury or illness which occurred while serving in the Armed Forces. Veterans UK may ask for a review of previously accepted conditions, or for new conditions to be assessed.
